Recently the Taliban supreme leader Mullah Mohammad Omar in a decree ordered the destruction of ancient statues including the two tallest giant Buddha statues of the world. Despite many international appeals to stop the Taliban from vandalizing the largest standing Buddha of the world Taliban ignored them and carried out the destruction.
The whole world was shocked when The Taliban authorities confirmed the news of the destruction of the two giant Buddha's. The whole world particularly Afghan people inside and out side the country could not believe that they have lost the eight wonder of the world.
Who was behind this decree? Why it is was carried out although the exclusive Talib leader in his 25th decree had ordered the preservation of all Afghan cultural heritages, which included the two giant Buddha's statues in Bamiyan province in central Afghanistan?
What made him change his mind? Was it a hand of outsiders? All these questions still remain a mystery.
The only man who can possibly reveal the answer is a man sitting behind curtains in his base in southern Afghanistan.
Ahmad Shah Masood in an interview condemned this action of the Taliban. He said that this is a foreign interference.
The Iranian President Mr. Mohammad Khatami condemned the action of Taliban and also burning of Holy Quran by Buddhist extremists. He said that those people who had tore Holy Quran they have broken the hearts of millions of Muslims and they were not supposed to do so in reaction to such ignorant people.
UNESCO the United Nation Educational Scientific Cultural Organization made many attempts to stop Taliban but all was useless.
The governments of Srilanka, India, Japan and America made many efforts but Taliban did not hear of any one and carried out the destruction.
Taliban said that the presence of these statues is an insult for Islam although Islam teaches the lesson of respect to the other people's religions.
They said that reason of drought and famine in Afghanistan was the presence of these statues, but we know that these statues were in Afghanistan for some 2000 years why then was in these 2000 years there was no such bad condition. The real factor of the drought in Afghanistan is the cruelty on the innocent people of Afghanistan.
No body worshipped these statues for centuries. The destruction of statues clarifies the ignorance of Taliban and their lack of knowledge about Islam.
The biggest idolatry is ignorance. The Talib supreme leader might have been called idol breaker (Bot Shekan) if he had struggled against ignorance.
Some actions are harmful for a certain group of people but this action of Taliban vanished the status of Afghans all over the world and this action was a treachery for Afghan nation.
The breaking of statues was such a black stamp on the foreheads of Taliban, which would be forever on their foreheads and every one and every Afghan, would be cursing them. God knows better that what will be the next trouble of Amir Ul Momineen on Afghans!!!
